The snow is here… ❄️ Sharing resources to stay warm and keep moving …

It looks like we’re in for a good amount of snow this weekend (January 24). Because of that, I’ll need to cancel library yoga on Monday, January 26. I’m also exploring the option of moving class online—contact me if you are interested to join me virtually Monday, January 26 at 5:30pm ET.

In the meantime, I wanted to share a few gentle ways to keep moving and stay warm if you find yourself snowed in.

First things first: all you truly need to practice yoga is your mind, body, and breath.
If you have a mat, wonderful. If not, no worries at all—everyday items around your home can easily double as yoga props.

Here are some simple swaps you can use:

  • chair, chest at the foot of your bed, or the side of your bed fall work or Legs Up the Wall

  • pillow or two work in place of a bolster

  • towel works as a strap

  • Large hardback books as blocks (your own personal books—not library copies of course)

  • For extra knees padding double up your mat or using a blanket or towel

  • folded towel under the hips works to make seated poses more comfortable

If you’re looking to stay cozy from the inside out, I have saved this Kripalu recipe for Ayurvedic Golden Milk—it looks warming, grounding, and perfect for snowy days. I can’t wait to try it myself this weekend!

For those interested in an online practice, Hope Mell offers slow, joint-friendly yoga classes on YouTube, allowing you to move at your own pace and comfort level. And this guide is wonderful for a more movement based flow.

Lastly, you can also check out my other blogs for additional resources for bee breath and a 118-page workbook for poses to help with lower back pain.

And if you go outside (only if safe and no ice…) you can do a walking mindful meditation to listen for the soft sound as the snow falls on the ground, trees or bushes.

Stay warm, stay safe, and remember: even a few mindful breaths count as practice. 💛
